A mission statement and values are meant to capture the heart behind why a business exists. We love our mission statement and it is more than just words to us. Our hope is that it shows you why we love what we do.
Truth be told, I’ve written a similar blog like this in the past – but now there’s more to say! The good news is we haven’t changed our philosophy or our values for the business. Actually, I’ve just gotten better at putting it into words. Almost like I’ve been watching a child grow and being able to define who we are. I’m able to see more pieces of our personality. On top of that, I’ve had some brain challenging meetings with my business coach (Thanks Shane!) – as well as some great reminders from Dave Ramsey leadership books. So, with all that said – here’s more on who we are and what we value.
Mentoring
Your Music. Your Style.
We are truly committed to this heart. This is more than just a cute saying we came up with. It resonates in the core of who we are in and out of business . . . .
Being a person that communicates best by a feeling – I wish I could put a picture of my feelings here for you. Then you could sense how strongly I feel about this just by the immense strength of the emotion. Even now, I am pausing to breathe at the end of each sentence – just trying to put the best words to this feeling. So, in the moment, my words will have to do. . . .
We care about EACH student. This goes beyond their talent or their ability. It’s the person as whole. Out of that – we can tweak the lesson plans, sense what each student is really trying to accomplish, and really cater goals for them based out of an understanding of their needs. We can do this because we are committed to helping each student grow in confidence that translates beyond their music and into their everyday world. I’ve seen this happen on every level and in every age group. I’m committed to seeing it happen time and again. And the day that I don’t see it happening is the day this business will not last. Therefore, I fight for that feeling and remind myself that it is why I do what I do. This is the heart behind our music lessons and what we hope you see every time you are at our studio.
Collaborating
More Knowledge. More Options.
StudioK used to be just one person and my dear husband as my cheerleader. I remember the day when I was struggling to build a business and thought – why is it so hard to connect with other music teachers? I felt like we were in competition more than working together. I wanted a business model that had more collaboration and teachers making an effort to work together. Well, like all brilliant ideas – it needs time to shape and morph and become an actual form. And that didn’t happen for a few years. But now, StudioK has multiple teachers with different backgrounds and expertise. Now the heart of mentoring is extended to all the teachers in the studio. My goal is to train them and help them to have the same values. That means I’m learning to let go! That also means that I’m committed to investing into studio teachers as they invest into studio students. And then the legacy of who we are gets bigger.
So, what does that mean for you as a student? Well, first you’ll be getting the most knowledgeable person on your instrument of choice. I learned a while back – I should NOT be teaching guitar just because I know a few chords. That is why we have our guitar teacher Nathaniel who specializes in teaching you this! As well as why we have multiple voice teachers with unique skills.
You’ll also benefit from the fact that if one person doesn’t know – one of us will! We talk behind the scenes and problem solve solutions together. And when you really see the full affect of this team effort – it’s at our recitals. Recitals are where all of our work as a team pays off. It’s where everyone, teachers and students, really shine. With all of us working together it’s a beautiful concoction of all of our music instructors collaborating.
Performing
Building Your Life Confidence.
We know that students are more likely to practice if they have something to work towards. On top of that, they are more likely to want to perform if the event is unique or different from the average recital. So our heart is to make performing a positive experience. We love going to coffee shops, performing at a gallery, or most of all – in the studio’s backyard! Our hope is that the music performances add to what each student is working hard to accomplish and fuel them to keep learning. Therefore, helping students be more confident musician and add to their overall confidence in themselves.
So take all that meaning and wrap it up into one sentence – and here’s what we are about:
